RESERVED VS. FREE DOMAINS
In Websupport we keep up with the trend, which means that we consistentlly add new domains to our portfolio. To date, there are already 452 domains. One of the biggest advantages of the new generic domains is the availability of free options for your project. In sum, if someone already have .net or .com variation of your domain, now you can get easily even more interesting ones. Indeed, new domain variations can perfectly capture and define your business or interests. For example, instead of kaktusbike.sk you now can have shorter and more concise domain kaktus.bike.
PROS AND CONS
The new generic domains have many supporters and fans, however there are also some critics who object overcharge of domains as well as the fact, that domains do not affect SEO. In the case of the prices are the objections really correct. New TLDs are more expensive than the .com domain. After all, it works like this in all segments. Usually, the value of the new products is exceeded with its price in the market. Price is largely influenced by IANA and of course over time naturally decreases. However, in case you finally find suitable domain options for your project, do not hesitate to invested.
And, how new TLDs behave in terms of search? Of course, everyone wants to attain top positions in search results. According to John Mueller, from official blog Google Webmaster Tools, new TLDs behave in search as well as “classic” .com or .org domain. In case of .sk domain, it is clear that it has a bit of more success in our country. Our national .sk domain has geographic relevance to Slovakia. However, in turn, this can limit the chances for a good ranking in the search abroad.
NEW DOMAIN VS. OLD DOMAIN
If you decide to use a new domain, remember on 301 redirect to the old site. This type of redirection tells Google and other search engines that your site has been permanentlly redirected to the new location. It is one of the best ways to redirect people from old to new web without hurting your SEO.
